ColdNSure improved

The ColdNSure test is based on measuring the activity of a set of carefully selected indicator genes, mainly involved in low temperature protection. Since last year NSure has refined the result report from 3 into 4 stages of cold tolerance:

Cold sensitive (0)

The indicator profiles match the profiles of lots that are actively growing. No sign of cold tolerance development could be recognized.

Developing cold tolerance (1)

Early signs of frost tolerance development can be recognized.

Developing cold tolerance (2)

Frost tolerance level approaches full cold tolerance.

Cold tolerant (3)

The indicator profiles match the profiles of lots that have ceased growth and that are fully tolerant, ready for lifting and storage.

The new 4 stage report is available for both Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris) and Norway Spruce (Picea abies). Test results for Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziessii) and Larch (Larix sp.) will still be reported in 3 stages.
