FreshNSure test proves 1-MCP application

Since 1-MCP application leaves no residue on the fruit, it’s hard to distinguish between treated and non-treated fruit. The FreshNSure Apple test, however, easily shows whether a batch of apples has been treated with 1-MCP or not. A 1-MCP treatment causes changes in gene activity which NSure is able to measure. These changes are measurable still after 9 months of storage. The FreshNSure test of NSure has already been validated for a number of commercial varieties, such as Gala, Red Delicious, Fuji, Granny Smith, Elstar, Jonagold and their clones. Other varieties and other crops will be added soon.

Sampling is quite easy and can be done by the grower/user himself. You only need to apply a few drops of juice on an NSure-card to have a batch of apples tested. After processing the card in our laboratory, the test result will be expressed in ‘not treated’ or ‘treated’. To make sure customers are well informed about their food, this test could - or should - be part of quality control protocols. FreshNSure can be used in addition to existing checks and tests of (organic) fruit. The test enables you to inform customers even more and better about their food.
